Hi Karen -

There is quite a bit of controversy as to what a systemic reaction is (or even if it exists). It is possible that this is not a related poison ivy rash. Perhaps you are seeing hives? This is not uncommon. Something like 75% of hives are never explained to cause. Hives (urticaria) are "red, itchy, and raised areas of the skin of varying shapes and sizes". I recommend reading this site for more information. Also, if you do a keyword search for "hives" on this message board, you'll find more references to hives.
