Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies. John, I wouldn't worry too much about taking prednisone for your poison ivy/oak even if you didn't need it. It's not going to kill you to take prednisone occasionally.
There really is unfounded hysteria about the use of steroids etc., even when taken short term for something like severe poison ivy. I'm still wondering if a shot would be as effective? Anyone know? As it is I am managing without the steroids, and the itching is slowly getting less hellish. The swelling is still fairly severe, although not anywhere near the very severe case I had.
