I got PI a week ago last Sunday and went to the docs on Thursday. I got the shot and started prednisone. By Sunday, I was ready to go to the hospital. I ended up going to the pharmacy (Rite Aid) and talked with the pharmacist. First he sold me a spray for $8 that would help control the itching (which it does). As I was about to leave he stopped me and told me about Zanfel. It is a 1oz. tube that is like toothpaste with a scrub in it. You can use it on pi hives that are hours old or a week old. It REALLY works and it is safe to use. You can use it on your face, too! Go and get it. The insert claims that "Zanfel and steroids make a great team". I went back to the pharmacy to get more - even though I am about 90% cured, just in case I have a relapse or at the very least just to have it on hand. I also wanted to thank the pharmacist for his advice. He said that the Zanfel has only been on the market for six months. Good luck on a fast recovery!
