I just wanted to share an experience in case anyone wonders how long the poison ivy oil remains poisonous on clothing, tools, etc. This week, I contracted poison ivy. I was stumped to determine how I'd been exposed, as we have none on our property, nor had I been anywhere where exposure was even possible.

The best I can figure is that a garden tool (a handsaw) I'd used for the first time in many years was contaminated with the oil. At our former residence, my husband used this handsaw to cut back the prolific poison ivy we had on our property. We moved away from there over SIX YEARS ago, which means any oil on the tool has been there for probably close to seven years.

So, when they say that oil stays on things for a long time, they aren't kidding. Absolutely amazing....
