Hi JV, the other post was correct. Touching or holding your kids while you have a rash, or even when it is oozing, will not spread it to anyone. It is the oil that does the spreading and causes the rash.

I would not be concerned about breastfeeding unless you have the rash on your areolas or nipples. Here is some info I found:

"The risk involved with continuing to breastfeed if the lesions are on the nipple or areola results from the possibility of secondary infection from infant to mother, which will cause skin breakdown and delayed healing. Treatment with hydrocortisone ointment (1 percent) will hasten healing. Milk should be pumped and may be fed to the infant. Breastfeeding can resume as soon as lesions have healed, usually 4 to 5 days, and the risk of secondary infection is gone."

Whether or not you use a cortisone cream is up to you. In my personal experience I find that a natural product like cocoa butter, shea butter, pure vitamin E cream, or emu oil works better at healing & soothing and does not thin the skin with continued use like hydrocortisone creams can. I don't think it is necessary to run to the doctor unless your outbreak is severe and cannot be managed yourself. Get well soon!
