My husband who is very sensitive swears by Zyrtec (which is very expensive, but effective). With this outbreak I had, I didn't use it because I so far am fortunage enough not to be itching too badly, and have relatively small areas of breakout. I did have one spot on my arm a few weeks ago that was an "old" breakout but kept itching. I had to scrub the spot with Zyrtec 2X, (make sure you follow the directions, and scrub for 2 minutes minimum, or it won't work). It did relieve the itching the spot healed right up. If you are careful with it, a tube can last quite a while. It is the only thing we've found that seems to provide effective relief later on after the rash appears.
