It is a myth that PI blisters are contagious or can otherwise be spread by contacting the fluid from the blisters. Only the oil from the PI plant or vine can cause the rash; however, the oil can linger for years. PI rashes can spread as the initial exposure settles in but this has nothing to do with tampering with the rash.

As for your problem: it is never a good idea to scratch or tamper with any skin irritation as you may find yourself with a nasty infection as well.
