Your vegetables are not going to extract poison and then poison you. The OILS however can stick to the produce. Ever buy produce at the grocery store and they are coated with a shiny substance? So, you wash them off real good and then eat them. You should be worried about the oils on the veggies. So yes, the will affect your plants if they get the oil on them and you should take all the necesssary precautions.
