The rash itself cannot spread poison ivy, however it is difficult to remove the oil (urushiol) that comes from the leaves and causes the break-out. it is likely your husband did not use the proper methods to remove the urushiol from his skin (which usually includes some form of alchohol) and transfered it to you. Its possible you are more sensitive to the urushiol and may break out even worse than your husband although he touched it first hand. I would read through ways to remove the urusiol on this site. I have been using aloevera, since i have poison ivy on a very sensitive area myself. Time, patience and cigarretes are the only thing that seem to relieve my pain:(
by the way, cigarettes dont actually help anything, just help me keep my mind off the itch:)
