Update as of 08-21-06
Sorry for taking so long in the update, but here it is ;-) :
We have presently cleared and eradictated approximately 47 acres of woods that of any trace of poison ivy/oak/sumac etc. Of the 40 (or so) acres we have converted at least 25 of them into the camping ground itself, containing a beautiful playground in the middle of 32 trailers. This expanision of the campground itself is still continuing at this time.
We still go over the area to check on any regrowth of the poison ivy, but have yet to find any new growth. We continue to use Clorox Ultra/Outdoor Bleach mixed 50/50 with RoundUp Poison Ivy Killer, in March and April (prior to the opening of the campground on Apr 15th). During the summer months we use a 60/40 mixture of the Bleach (60%) to the 40% Roundup.
It is something all of the campers (helpers) are proud of, along with the fact that nobody, that has helped us, has ever had any problems with "catching" poison ivy.
We have also found that apparently poison ivy doesn't like the sun nor cultivated ground as we have been removing trees and planting grass in as much of the woods as possible. We have also completly removed all the HUGE vines growing thru the trees, with the largest cluster being about 24" round and 73' long.
The locust trees that had been covered with PI vines and were stripped of bark, sprayed with outdoor bleach, cut into 24" logs and stacked, and dried for a full summer (of 2004) were then split (in 2005) resprayed with bleach and restacked, have been making great campfires for us this summer (2006) and as of yet, nobody has had any problem with PI.
It DOES work but it also TAKES work. Stick to it, BE CAREFUL and in the long run you will be much happier. (The campground owner is WAY AHEAD of the expense he put up 2 years ago.) The campground is larger, healthier and much more beautiful than it was before we started.
