I had a really nasty exposure to poison ivy around 2 years ago. Ever since, I get recurring symptoms almost every time I get sweaty. It seems like the skin is weakened and nerves even numbed slightly because itching is less effective than on skin from the rest of my body. I get sweaty and bring back the signs like this every weak or so. For me, it is not like my skin has an internal clock and pops up annually at all. It is more like the original conditions of exposure trigger the reaction. My doctor said that poison ivy inflammation was an immune response. Maybe the affected areas are now trained to call on the immune system for back up to fight whenever similar conditions come back. My skin there is like an old soldier who can't accept that the war has ended.
