Hello form East Tennessee.

I'm sorry to inform you, but they BOTH do indeed grow in East Ky.

Poison Oak grow is will usually grow on the ground in a shrub type forum but can creep as a vine. Poison ivy vines have hairs that protrude off the vine and help it "Stick to the tree". Where as oak will have a more bark like texture to the "vine".

As for the Sumac, it like a VERY wet environment. A is usually
found around Creeks, rock banks of rivers, ect...
