One thing I've always used after poison ivy exposure in the shower is Lava soap. Lava is an industrial oil and grease removal soap that dries skin out. Fortunately, it also seems to remove the urushiol oil that resides in poison ivy and poison oak.

I use Lava any time I'm around poison ivy and recently, every time I pick up the cat!

Some people have said not to use hot water and soap, but when using a harsh oil-busting soap, I think opening the pores may actually help. Anyway, using Lava twice on my arms and legs seems to keep me from getting a rash.
